On Thursday, 5Y celebrated National Lucky Penny Day in style – showing that ‘small things make a difference’. They reflected upon the charity and environmental work that we as a school have achieved this year.
On Wednesday, a large number of children from Year 5 performed on a variety of instruments for the entertainment of their parents and the whole school. It was wonderful to see how confidently they played.
5G treated us to the first class assembly of 2019. The topic was 'New Year Resolutions'. They wowed us with some fabulous talents and inspired us to make positive changes this year. Well done!
Twenty six choir members from Years 5 and 6 went to the Parish Centre to visit the Dementia Café today. They entertained everyone with their beautiful Christmas Carol sing-a-long!

5G entertained us with a show all about the Romans and Anglo-Saxons. We hope the 5G parents enjoyed the eclectic mix of songs and dances!
Year 5 were involved in the Mayor's Award for Visual Arts and Miss Murphy from Year 1 coordinated the special project.
The members of the choir from Years 5 & 6 visited the Dementia Cafe run by volunteers at the Parish Centre. The audience really enjoyed the carols and traditional Christmas songs the choir sang so beautifully! Thank you choir, we were very proud of your performance.
The West End came to Southgate when parents and pupils alike were amazed by 5G's excellent acting of "Matilda the Musical." Well done everyone!
5Y welcomed everyone back and gave a special welcome to our new pupils, Fr Mehall and Fr John. They also explained the Sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Our instrumentalists from Years 5 & 6 played to the whole school and their parents. They gave a beautiful performance and amazed us all with their wonderful talents!
Singing Playgrounds has come to St Monica’s. Thirty children from KS2 attended training at Keys Meadow Primary on 27th February. They then helped another 24 children to learn to be Song leaders here in school. Finally, we took the games out into the playgrounds, and hope to run sessions once a week. Our favourite games are “Jump Jim Joe”, “Bungalow”, “John Kanakanaka”, “Here Comes Sally” and “Tanczymy Labada”.
5G showcased how talented their writers are! Children presented parts of their exciting stories written for the Mayor’s Writing Competition, which this year is themed around escape. Good luck!
5Y took us to different parts of the world during their assembly and compared features of each place.
Another full night of entertainment - Well Done to all the Pupils who performed tonight! The standard was impressive and the judges had to make some difficult decisions choosing winners. Luckily the staff performance was not judged! Thank you to all the staff who helped to organise this event. Nearly £740 was raised in ticket sales which will be put towards buying resources for the children.
5G had great fun researching and presenting facts about the way Christmas is celebrated in different countries around the world. They also realised how fortunate we are in being able to openly celebrate Christmas. On behalf of 5G, wishing you all Feliz Navidad!
