Secondary Transfer

Transferring to Secondary School

Your child’s transfer to secondary school is an important decision you are likely to start thinking about several years before they leave primary school. We have a parents’ meeting at the beginning of September when your child reaches Year 6 where Mrs Baptiste explains the process and goes over all the necessary paperwork.

During the first half of the Autumn term in Year 6, parents are encouraged to visit all the secondary schools local to where they live and that they are interested to see. Nothing beats a personal visit to soak up a school’s atmosphere and ethos. Parents/carers then must apply for a place for their child for a secondary school by the end of October.

Parents need to complete an online application from the Local Authority in which they live. Faith schools will also require additional paperwork such as a “Supplementary Information Form” or a “Certificate of Catholic Practice” which must be delivered directly to the relevant school.
